In his latest film, Brolin plays Buck Ferguson, a hunter who fronts “Buck Fever” wildlife documentaries and plans to make an epic video special around a hunting weekend with his estranged son Jaden (Montana Jordan). But the tween’s impatience, lack of understanding and growing attachment to his mom’s new boyfriend Greg (Scoot McNairy) keep the whole thing from going as planned.
Luckily, Brolin is a great anchor for the story and manages to navigate its transitions while still keeping the humor going. It’s a light, funny Netflix watch that’s worth checking out on its own merits, though I can’t help but think it’s been toned-down in comparison to Hill’s other work.
